Mold is caused by excess moisture introduced into materials that mold use as food. This molding process is commonly caused by plumbing, roof or even lacks of insulation that introduce moisture into building materials. Natural disasters like floods and hurricanes are an unfortunate major cause throughout south Louisiana.
To determine if mold is present and/or active, a minimum of three air samples are taken at the property. Swab or tape lift samples can also be taken from visible microbial growth. Samples are sent to a lab for testing and analysis, whereby it will be determined if any species are actively producing spores, and how many spores are being produced.
